Ants Town

During your travel to Costa Rica, don't miss the opportunity to visit Ants Town. Here, you can get up close with the Zompopas ants, which are a fascinating eco-social organization led by a queen and with an advanced agricultural system. In the world, there are approximately 12,000 species of ants, and Costa Rica is home to 600 species. On this tour, you'll be able to see three colonies established through a natural system.

At the beginning of the route, you'll encounter "El Super," where the ants obtain the material to make the fungus that provides them with food. You might be surprised to learn that ants don't actually eat leaves - they use the leaves as a raw material to form the fungus that's seen in the colonies. During the tour, you'll learn about the "social classes" of the colony and the functions of each member. You'll also discover the important role that the queen plays in the colony's survival - if she dies, the entire colony will perish.

Chocolate Excursion in La Tirimbina Biological Reserve
Discover the secrets and wonders of one of humanity's favorite foods, chocolate. The excursion includes a guided tour of the suspension bridge of Tirimbina, towards an old cocoa plantation, as well as a sector of the forest, and how this product was originally developed there. During the walk, the natural and cultural history of the Cocoa tree is exposed and you will learn about the artisanal process by which cocoa is transformed into chocolate (Collection, Fermentation, Drying), and there it will be possible to taste different types of chocolates, made at from organic cocoa, and that are produced by the Association of Amazilia Women of the Caribbean. Through this excursion you will collaborate to rescue one of the native plants, and one of the most environmentally friendly crops, supporting a community group that has visualized chocolate as a means to improve their living conditions.

Hotel La Quinta de Sarapiqui

If you're planning a tour to Costa Rica, make sure to include a visit to La Quinta. Founded by a Costa Rican family in 1993, La Quinta was originally an orange farm before being transformed into an ecological lodge. The main house now serves as the lodge's reception, lobby, and dining room, while the surrounding houses have been renovated to serve as guest rooms. As part of the transformation, a reforestation project was launched to protect and strengthen the populations of native flora and fauna.

La Quinta has been certified by the Certification of Sustainable Tourism (CST) of the Tourist Board of Costa Rica as a sustainable lodge, achieving the maximum rating of 5 sheets. The CST is a comprehensive program that evaluates and certifies tourism companies according to their compliance with sustainable tourism practices. La Quinta strives to have little or no negative impact on its surroundings and works to coexist harmoniously with nature.

The twenty acres of La Quinta include regenerating agriculture, a reforested area with native trees, an old-growth riverside forest, and tropical gardens. The lodge takes great care and responsibility to ensure the environment is preserved, and they appreciate visitors' cooperation in maintaining sustainable practices during their stay. We invite you to enjoy the natural beauty of La Quinta during your tour to Costa Rica. Don't miss the opportunity to experience the beauty of this South Caribbean region, with Namuwoki offering forest and beach just 10 minutes away.
