Airports of Paris
Secret information: upon booking this itinerary the Travel Designer reveals additional information with tips.
In Paris there are three airports: Chales de Gaulle, Orly, and a bit farther away the Beauvais airport. I recommend trying to get to Charles de Gaulle Airport, which is the main airport in Paris and where most intercontinental flights arrive. The second option is to arrive at Orly airport, which is further away. Lastly, there is Beauvais airport. Only low-cost airlines fly to Beauvais airport and it is located 80 kilometers north of Paris (it's a hassle to get there). - Charles de Gaulle Airport: It is the main airport in Paris and one of the most important in the world. Major commercial airlines fly to this airport, as well as some low-cost airlines. It is very well connected to Paris by a train that arrives at Gare du Nord station, where you can take the metro to go anywhere in Paris. - Orly Airport: It is located 20 kilometers from Paris and the travel time from the center to the airport is approximately 40 minutes. The cheapest and most popular option to get from the airport is to use tram line T7 and then take the metro. The tram arrives at Villejuif-Louis Argon station. - Beauvais Airport: Only low-cost airlines fly to this airport. The airport is located 80 kilometers from Paris and it is necessary to take a bus that costs approximately 30 euros. I do not recommend this option. To take the bus, you must book your ticket in advance online (you don't want to miss your flight). The bus stop in Paris is located in a parking lot near Porte Maillot metro station. Many tours of Europe start in Paris, so if you are a frequent traveler, you will have a special love for Charles de Gaulle airport. Additional tips can be found in the secret information.
Athens Airport to the City

Athens is one of my favorite cities in the world. There is something magical about walking through streets full of history, enjoying a sunset from Mount Lycabettus, or sharing a glass of ouzo while Greek music fills the air. Greeks are exceptional people: warm, friendly, and always ready to share a smile. They love to party, and their hospitality makes anyone feel at home.

If you are planning to travel from Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport to the city center, here are my recommendations:

From the Airport to Athens:

  1. Metro (Line 3): It is a comfortable and efficient option. In about 40 minutes, it takes you directly to the center, with key stops like Syntagma and Monastiraki. It runs every 30 minutes and is ideal if you don't have too much luggage.
  2. Express Bus (X95): Perfect for budget travelers. It connects the airport with Syntagma Square and operates 24 hours, although it may take longer due to traffic.

  3. Taxi or Private Transfer: If you prefer comfort, a taxi or private transfer is the best option. Taxis have fixed rates to the center, but make sure to confirm before starting the journey.

  4. Rental Car: If you plan to explore beyond Athens, such as the temples of Sounion or Delphi, renting a car from the airport can be an excellent option.

Returning to the Airport:

For your return, consider leaving with enough time, especially if you take the bus or metro, as traffic can complicate things. Taxis and private transfers are also a reliable option to avoid delays.

Where to stay:

The Plaka area is ideal for tourists. It is at the foot of the Acropolis and oozes charm with its cobbled alleys and traditional restaurants. Monastiraki is another popular option, known for its markets and vibrant atmosphere. If you are looking for a more cosmopolitan environment, Kolonaki offers boutiques, chic cafes, and a more exclusive feel.

No matter how you choose to get around or where you decide to stay, Athens will welcome you with open arms. It is a city that blends the ancient and the modern with an energy that will enchant you, just as it did me. Get ready to enjoy its history, its people, and its festive spirit!

Free time in Athens

A free afternoon in Athens can be the perfect start to falling in love with this city. Since we don't know the exact arrival time of your flight, it's difficult for me to recommend something specific. But here's my advice: take a look at the activities you have planned for the upcoming days, and if any of them catch your eye, you could move one forward to make the most of your time.

If you prefer something more relaxed and spontaneous, here are some general ideas that are perfect for starting to explore Athens:

  • A stroll through Plaka: This charming neighborhood is ideal for a leisurely walk. Its cobblestone streets, small shops, and open-air cafes will allow you to connect with the spirit of the city from the very first moment.
  • Philopappos Hill: If the sun is still high, climb this hill to enjoy a stunning view of the Acropolis and the city stretching out towards the sea. It’s a perfect spot for a first impression of Athens.
  • Enjoying Greek food: Look for a traditional tavern and try a souvlaki or a Greek salad. There's no better way to welcome your Greek adventure than with a delicious meal.
  • Exploring Monastiraki: This vibrant neighborhood, famous for its market and lively atmosphere, is ideal for getting lost among stalls of crafts, antiques, and unique souvenirs.

Athens always has something to offer, whether it's a cultural experience, breathtaking views, or quiet moments on a terrace. Whatever you choose to do, I assure you it will be the perfect start to what awaits you in this city full of history and life.
