The way back can be a pain, but I’ll provide you with the easiest options.
Tamarindo - Liberia
• With the standard bus, opposite ‘Nordico,’ the bus leaves for Liberia. It takes about 1.5 hours, and the cost is around a few dollars. The bus goes almost every hour.
• With the shuttle bus, this bus picks you up from your accommodation. It takes about 1.5 hours. The costs are around $60.- USD.
• The taxi, they pick you up wherever you like. The drive takes around 1 hour and costs around $.- USD.
Tamarindo - San Jose.
You could choose to use one of the methods above to drive to Liberia and then fly from Liberia to San Jose.
- With the standard bus, this bus leaves in front of ‘Jardin Tamarindo Foodtruck Park’. This bus goes almost every hour in the morning, but less frequent in the afternoon. Beware that it takes between 5 and 7 hours total. Depending on your flight schedule, you might need to go a day ahead or leave early in the morning.
- With the shuttle. The shuttle needs to be booked ahead, costs around $100.- USD and picks you up at your accommodation. The duration of the trip is around 4.5 hours.
- By air. Tamarindo has a small airport that offers flights to San Jose. Book ahead to keep the price low.
This itinerary is about a tour of one of my favorite coastlines—the west coast of Costa Rica. The country is famous for its amazing surf, volcanos, national parks, wildlife diversity, great climate and of course for its lifestyle of ‘Pura Vida’.

There will be different options, and when necessary, don’t hesitate to contact me. (Important advice before booking your flight…! Decide if you want to enter and exit the country through the same airport. Traveling within Costa Rica can be time-consuming. It would make sense to land in San Jose for this itinerary and book your return ticket from Liberia Airport. However, if this is not possible, don’t worry, I’ll provide you with other options too).
