Day 1: Arrival at Tuxtla Gutierrez Airport - Zoo and Chiapa de Corzo

Arrival in Tuxtla Gutiérrez and Visit to the Zoo
The journey begins upon your arrival at Tuxtla Gutierrez Airport. I recommend arriving early to make the most of the day. As the first activity, I propose visiting the Zoomat Zoo in Tuxtla Gutierrez (https://blog.hoteleus.com/visita-a-zoomat-el-zoologico-de-tuxtla-gutierrez/). This zoo is not just any zoo, it is probably the best in all of Mexico and definitely worth a visit. The place is beautiful, filled with jungle trees and surrounded by nature. What makes this zoo incredible is the great biodiversity of flora and fauna in Chiapas (https://blog.hoteleus.com/fenomenal-biodiversidad-en-chiapas/). You will be able to observe amazing animals such as jaguars, pumas, macaws, tarantulas, black widows, monkeys, crocodiles, a variety of snakes, and deer, among others. The visit requires 2 to 3 hours. This visit is an excellent first place to visit in Chiapas. It serves as an introduction and gives an idea of the nature that exists in Chiapas, which is the main attraction of the state.
The entrance fee is 20 pesos and Zoomat Zoo is located at: Calle Senor del Pozo 242, Cerro Hueco, 29094 Tuxtla Gutierrez, Chis.

Visit to El Chorreadero
The Chorreadero is a small natural park located a 10-minute drive from Chiapa de Corzo. It features a waterfall that emerges from a hole in the mountain and forms a river, which in turn creates natural pools. If there are people in the group who enjoy ecotourism sports, El Chorreadero offers various activities such as hiking, swimming, rock climbing, and exploring underground rivers. The availability of activities depends on the time of year and the strength of the river. If you are interested, it is recommended to plan the activities in advance directly with the park staff at: http://www.cascadaelchorreadero.com.mx/Inicio.html. It is not a mandatory visit, but highly recommended. The duration is approximately one hour and the entrance fee is 20 pesos. For me, it is a visit that can be done in some free time. For example, on the first day after visiting the Zoomat Zoo, on the second day after visiting El Aguacero, or on the third day after visiting the Sumidero Canyon before heading to San Cristóbal de las Casas.

Note on choosing accommodation in Tuxtla Gutiérrez or Chiapa de Corzo.

Hotel La Ceiba Chiapa de Corzo - The Hotel La Ceiba in Chiapa de Corzo is, for me, the best lodging option in Chiapa de Corzo. It is a rustic, simple, clean and charming hotel.

It is located in the center of the town and you can comfortably walk around Chiapa de Corzo. Chiapa de Corzo is a much nicer place to walk than Tuxtla Gutierrez, the colonial streets and buildings are very beautiful. There are craft shops, you can visit the cathedrals, go to cafes and stroll around the central square.

The hotel has air conditioning in the rooms, a restaurant and a swimming pool.

The location is very good as it is next to the Cañón del Sumidero pier and 10 minutes from El Chorreadero. The best lodging option in Chiapa de Corzo. Recommended for friends and young couples.

Hotel Bestwestern Palmareca or Palmareca Suites - This hotel is located in the modern part of Tuxtla Gutierrez and has a reasonable price. It has all the facilities and amenities that distinguish the BestWestern chain, so comfort is assured.

One of the remarkable things about the hotel is the breakfast. It serves a typical Chiapaneco buffet breakfast that is so good that it attracts many locals who line up to enter on weekends. It has parking and a swimming pool.

The hotel has air conditioning in the rooms, a restaurant and a swimming pool. For me, it is the best lodging option in Tuxtla Gutierrez. Recommended for families.

Hilton Garden and Marriott Tuxtla - Excellent 5-star hotels. I add these two options as a last resort. It is very good and comfortable lodging but the rates tend to be higher.

Detail

Do you want to discover Chiapas in depth? This tour is one of the most comprehensive that you can do in Chiapas. Each day, we will make the most of our time so you can see as much as possible.

During the first few days, we will dedicate our time to exploring Tuxtla Gutierrez and El Aguacero, one of the lesser-known natural attractions near Tuxtla Gutierrez. Of course, we will also visit the Sumidero Canyon.

Afterwards, we will go to San Cristobal, using it as a base to visit indigenous communities, as well as the El Chiflon waterfall and the Montebello Lakes.

After seeing these wonderful places, we will head north to visit Agua Azul, Palenque, and Misol-ha. This area of Chiapas is also incredible.

Lastly, we will stay in the city of Palenque for a few days in order to visit Yaxchilan and Bonampak. These are some of the most incredible ruins in all of Mexico, as they are submerged in the jungle.

All activities on the itinerary are suggestions and are not included in the cost if you choose to make a reservation. The only thing included are the hotels that I recommend. I carefully selected these hotels. They are hotels that I know, are of quality, comfortable, and have very good reviews. If you make a reservation for this itinerary, I will provide you with additional tips to enhance your trip.
