On your own: Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Sumidero Canyon, and San Cristóbal de las Casas.
Travel Designer Review:
Hotel La Ceiba Chiapa de Corzo - The Hotel La Ceiba in Chiapa de Corzo is, for me, the best lodging option in Chiapa de Corzo. It is a rustic, simple, clean and charming hotel.
It is located in the center of the town and you can comfortably walk around Chiapa de Corzo. Chiapa de Corzo is a much nicer place to walk than Tuxtla Gutierrez, the colonial streets and buildings are very beautiful. There are craft shops, you can visit the cathedrals, go to cafes and stroll around the central square.
The hotel has air conditioning in the rooms, a restaurant and a swimming pool.
The location is very good as it is next to the Cañón del Sumidero pier and 10 minutes from El Chorreadero. The best lodging option in Chiapa de Corzo. Recommended for friends and young couples.
Hotel Bestwestern Palmareca or Palmareca Suites - This hotel is located in the modern part of Tuxtla Gutierrez and has a reasonable price. It has all the facilities and amenities that distinguish the BestWestern chain, so comfort is assured.
One of the remarkable things about the hotel is the breakfast. It serves a typical Chiapaneco buffet breakfast that is so good that it attracts many locals who line up to enter on weekends. It has parking and a swimming pool.
The hotel has air conditioning in the rooms, a restaurant and a swimming pool. For me, it is the best lodging option in Tuxtla Gutierrez. Recommended for families.
Hilton Garden and Marriott Tuxtla - Excellent 5-star hotels. I add these two options as a last resort. It is very good and comfortable lodging but the rates tend to be higher.

Chiapas is one of the most impressive and beautiful states in all of Mexico. I have visited it many times for over 10 years. I also had the luck of living in a house in San Cristóbal de las Casas for a period of time.
All of the visits I have made to Chiapas have been very pleasant experiences. Some trips I specifically made to explore tourist attractions, hotels, and tours to recommend to my acquaintances.
This tour I have designed is for those who want to enjoy Chiapas on their own, without the restrictions of being tied to the schedule of a tour, seeing the most emblematic places at a very affordable price.
It is a trip aimed at families, couples, or friends who want to enjoy a medium to high level of comfort. It is not a trip aimed at backpackers, although it is probably accessible to them as well since Chiapas is very affordable.
In all the trips I design, I usually recommend 4-star category hotels. Occasionally, I recommend some of lower category because they are the only ones available or the best in the area. When I recommend a 5-star hotel or a more expensive one, it is because I believe the hotel is, in addition to accommodation, a destination or tourist attraction itself.
To make this trip, it is recommended to rent a car for your entire stay (not included in the price). If you do not wish to drive, the best way to get around is by using taxis.
