A vacation offers us a wonderful opportunity to break away from our daily routines, unwind from stress, and reconnect with both ourselves and our travel companions. You're probably filled with excitement and anticipation as you think about arriving to Cancun Airport, ready to embark on an amazing journey.
To kick off your trip with the right foot, it's essential to prepare your mindset for the first adventure ahead. Airports can be stressful, and traveling can be exhausting. Once you've navigated through immigration, you'll encounter the first challenge of your trip - typically, making your way to your hotel.
To help you be as prepared as possible and minimize any stress, I've put together a handy guide with tips and tricks for a smooth arrival experience. Read on to learn how to effortlessly navigate this part of your journey and start your vacation off on a positive note.
NOTE that I gladly offer advice like this, but keep in mind that the travel itineraries I design come packed with insider tips like these, which can take your trip to the next level. You'll gain access to this exclusive information when you book one of my itineraries.
I would like to confess that I dislike the experience of renting a car and that I avoid it as much as I can (more in Mexico). But well, sometimes it is the best option for a trip and having the car is amazing. So here is what is going to happen when you rent a car.
The Car Rental Agents will try to sell you extra insurance and all the services they can because that is their job. Some of them might use strategies such as inferring that the insurance you have (if you have one) does not work or is not enough. My advice is to expect to pay around 20 to 30 usd extra a day at the counter or directly book on the car rental company with all the insurance and services that you want (if you can). And remember you need a credit card that will be used to hold a deposit in case the car rental company needs to charge something for damages to the car.
When receiving the car make a video of all the parts of the car and the fuel level. Ask the car rental agent to mark in the form all the scratches and bumps you find. Pay special attention to windows and tires.
Try not to return the car extremely dirty. Some car rental companies will charge you for the extra cleaning. Pay special attention to pet fur and sand.
In some parts of Mexico you can ask for an Uber or Didi for your transfer and in some not. Cancun airport and in Riviera Maya is one of the places where I do not recommend Uber. Why? There is a kind of mafia of trade unions that fight Ubers. I advise you to forget the stress and book your transfer in advance (my favorite) or buy the service directly INSIDE the airport in official shops.
I go a lot to Playa del Carmen and I use this service: Cancun Airport Transportation.
The third and cheapest option is to use ADO bus service or shared transfer. If my party is or 2 or I am alone I normally use ADO to get to Playa del Carmen and shared transfer to go to Cancún. But if my party is of three or more I prefer the taxi because the price is almost the same.
The shared transfer service runs all day but you will have to wait for the van to get full before it departs.
The ADO bus service has time schedules that change throughout the year.
Ah, Mexico! A culinary paradise known worldwide for its incredible gastronomic diversity, so much so that even the United Nations (UN) recognized Mexican cuisine as part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2010. It's no wonder that food-loving tourists keep flocking to "Mexico Lindo y Querido".
But beware, fellow traveler! Not everyone is prepared for the delightful dance of flavors, spices, and microorganisms that Mexican cuisine offers. Some might find themselves falling victim to the infamous "Montezuma's Revenge," a cheeky term for traveler's diarrhea.
You see, Montezuma's Revenge is a rite of passage for some travelers who aren't quite used to the deliciously diverse world of Mexican food, with its rich seasonings, generous helpings of fat, and, of course, the often fiery spice levels. So, as you indulge in Mexico's fantastic culinary scene, remember to tread lightly and embrace the adventure – just be prepared for Montezuma to have the last laugh!
Why do we call it Revenge of Moctezuma? Moctezuma was the most famous Aztec Emperor. Because the Spanish conquistadores conquered Tenochtitlan he gave them in revenge a terrible diarrhea. That's it hahahah!!!
How to prepare yourself for the Revenge of Moctezuma??? I will give you my advice as Secret Information upon booking one of my travel itineraries.
If you're looking to kick off your Mexico vacation in the best possible way, then heading straight to Isla Mujeres from the Cancun Airport is a great option. Why? Well, for starters, Isla Mujeres has the most beautiful beach in the entire Riviera Maya region. Of course this is an opinion that I hope you will share with me when you visit Playa Norte.
Apart from the beach, the island offers a great opportunity to explore and engage in ecotourism activities, all while letting your body relax and recover from the jetlag and the long flight from home.
Moreover, visiting Isla Mujeres provides a unique opportunity to experience the local culture and way of life that is not easily accessible in the big resort areas of Cancun.
Overall, going straight from the Cancun Airport to Isla Mujeres is a perfect way to start your vacation and enjoy the best of what Mexico has to offer.
The best way to go from Cancun Airport to Isla Mujeres is by taking a cab to Puerto Juarez and then taking the ferry to the island. Once you arrive at Isla Mujeres, if your hotel is located in Playa Norte, you can typically walk to it. However, if your hotel is located elsewhere on the island, you may need to take another taxi.
Taking a cab to Puerto Juarez is the most convenient and reliable way to get to Isla Mujeres from the Cancun Airport. From there, you can catch a ferry to Isla Mujeres, which takes only about 20-30 minutes. Once you arrive on the island, it's relatively easy to get around, especially if you're staying in the popular Playa Norte area.
If your hotel is located elsewhere on the island, you may need to take another taxi to get there. This will likely be a short ride and won't cost you too much, but it's worth factoring into your travel plans.
THE LAST FERRY USUALLY GOES AROUND 11 PM.
